I own some mutual funds that invest in gold mining stocks, such as the Blackrock World Gold A2 fund. That was one of my only mutual funds that performed well throughout the financial mess of the past 2 years. I don't have any funds that invest in gold and silver directly, because I own the physical gold, but if you're going to trade them relatively short term then I think they're good. Holding them longterm though bothers me, because I know they're not really invested in real physical gold.
